What is in the CSA?

By supporting the farm for the season, you are signed up to receive a share of the farm. A share includes a weekly box of 6 to 8 assorted seasonal vegetables, access to the box of extras at each pick up for even more veg, weekly email with farm updates & recipes, and more.

Pick ups are hosted at a local Austin restaurant and are intended to be a space for CSA members to get to know each other, swap veggies, share recipes, and build community with other folks who support a reimagined food system.

CSA members are the farm’s community. Have access to volunteer days, be the first to receive access to event tickets (workshops, dinners, etc) and get 10% off ticket prices.

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for "Community-Supported Agriculture."

It's a partnership between a farm and its community. CSA members pay for a share at the beginning of the growing season, which the farm uses to buy seeds and supplies. In return, the farm harvests what it grows for its members to enjoy! The CSA model creates a direct connection between farmers and eaters. We see it as a step closer to our dream food system where you know where and how your food was grown.

The CSA is great if you want to eat local, seasonal vegetables regularly and be connected to the farm. Think about it like a Chopped (Food Network) box every week! If that sounds as fun to you as it does to us then we would love to have you!

If you don’t eat veggies or cook often, then we recommend supporting the farm in other ways! Reach out to see what we are up to and how you an get involved.

FAQs

  • When it comes to farming, nothing is guaranteed, however I do my best to grow a large variety of veggies that are swapped in and out each week.

Each box will contain 6 to 8 seasonal veggies.

Some Summer veggies to expect later in the season are tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, eggplant, peppers, and green beans!

Some cooler weather crops that I am growing include cabbage, cauliflower, kale, salad greens, chicories, and much more!

  • CSA boxes can always be gifted and picked up by a friend OR donated to our partners at Free Lunch to make food for the free fridge.

I can also work with you to find a different pick up day if you reach out a week in advance!

  • You can pay for a third of the season at a time using checks. The 3 checks should be dated March 1, April 1, and June 1 and will be deposited throughout the season. Please use the contact page to coordinate a secure method to receive these checks.

  • Great question! This has been one of the big things I have been working through as a farm and business too!

My favorite resource has been Worts and Cunning.

    They use the “green bottle method” which translates to our system like this;

If you own your home, your car, can regularly go on vacation or take time off, have access to healthcare, etc. Please consider subsidizing a share.

If meeting your basic needs (paying rent, access to healthcare, etc.) can be stressful, but you are able to meet them regularly, please consider purchasing a share at full price.

If you cannot regularly meet your basic needs, including food, housing, transportation. Please consider reaching out for a subsidized share.

This is a guideline, but please be mindful of your whole situation, and do what is best for you. Some other things to consider are if you have savings or access to financial help through family, if you are navigating chronic illness.

There are no questions asked regarding your choice.

  • I will try to reach out via email or phone at the end of pick up. If I don’t hear back, I will drop your box off at Free Lunch that night so they can make yummy meals to fill the ATX Free Fridges around town.

  • Each week at pick up, there will be a bin of extra veggies harvested that week. You can swap with a friend or with the box for a veggie you are more excited about!

  • Each week, I will send out an email with information about the farm and the veggies in season. I mostly share what I am cooking up that week as inspiration.

Additionally, pick up dinners are a great place to ask other CSA members what they are cooking up and if they have any recipes to share :)

  • Luckily, most (if not all) veggies can be enjoyed raw!

But maybe a CSA isn’t the best choice for you.

I would recommend finding the us at the farmer’s market or reaching out on the contact form for less frequent veggies!
